Plateau Montreal (30 sec. 2001) Shot, directed, and edited by Lester Alfonso. Super8 film photography and video are used for a Travel Channel spec ad.
Day 16 of 360 videos from my archive. Today’s video is a spec ad I did for the Travel Channel which was eventually rejected. In the advertising industry, a spec ad (short for “speculative advertisement”) is generally defined as an ad created to win an account, without guarantees of payment from the client. I’m glad I did it though.
This thirty-second creation is the only thing that’s left from a time that seems so far away and long ago. I met filmmaker Izabel Grondin during my travels to Montréal. She drew me in with her beauty and charm. I knew immediately that I had to get her on film. Her interview creates the clothesline on which I pinned my motion pictures. The guitar music from a random busker on the street created the rhythm.
Izabel’s kiss flies across the years to warm my heart. Wherever you are Izabel, hugs, and kisses back! — LA
