One of downtown Peterborough’s landmarks will undergo a spooky transformation later this month. Local circus arts curator Thomas Vaccaro has received a Canada Council for the Arts grant that will allow Circus Vaccaro to turn Market Hall into a haunted attraction this Halloween. James Spremo-Bain has developed Happy Hall-o-Ween, which turns the hall into a COVID-compliant haunted house, with performers welcoming people to wander through the “surreal” exhibits before seeing a horror-driven live show. “A long fan of horror and the macabre, this project is James’ dream come true, as he invites you to see his atmospheric visions,” states a press release. Audiences will move through the attraction in groups of 10, meeting creatures and experiencing frights before “a main stage performance in which James Spremo-Bain’s torturous and gore filled nightmare state is brought to life.” Featured artists include Vaccaro, Spremo-Bain, Rosie Salcido (Facesby2), LA Alfonso, Ethan Hinshelwood, Victoria Wood, Patricia Levert-Thorne, Jennifer (Opal) Elchuk, Josh Cavanagh and Tricia Hinshelwood. “Lighting effects will be used and may affect those with photosensitivity,” states an advisory. “Accommodations for those with mobility difficulties may be required. Elements of fear and graphic content.”
