Head Swim (5 min. 1991) Conceived and directed by Lester Alfonso who stars, credited as Feltros Sloane, in this 16mm black and white short for film school.
Film School circa 1991. We were kids. I was passionate about some ideas. I couldn’t have done it without the help of Mary Juric and Shelley Croft who championed this crazy vision. Thank you.
It always comes back to Citizen Kane, doesn’t it?
OK. I’m publishing this VHS artifact “as is” with the Mike Oldfield soundtrack that was married to it in the final end-of-year compilation the school provided all of us that year.
I did hope to release a remastered version someday with a new soundtrack. At the time, we couldn’t work with sync audio so we had to make a silent film. I had found the soundtrack to the film The Killing Fields and I thought these tracks called Worksite, Blood-Sucking, and The Year Zero worked well together and I never thought I would publish this ever so it didn’t matter to me.
I had originally intended to also have a track by Billy Holiday over top of the end-credits but we just didn’t have the time.
More soon so stay tuned! —LA
