Water Star (15 sec.) A stock clip created by Lester Alfonso by shooting thorough a triangular prism (Toblerone) made up of three mirrors facing inward.
Day 17 of 360 videos from my archive. In today’s video, all the work happened before the camera started rolling. The main job was to create a kind of kaleidoscope using three rectangular shaped mirrors duct-taped together facing each other. Pointing a camera through this long hollow mirrored Toblerone achieves an interesting visual effect when shot at just the right angle.
I was creating a new video for choreographer Deepti Gupta. The project was called Rubies to accompany a dance performance that was set to premiere in Peterborough at Market Hall and in Toronto at the Harbourfront Theatre. I wanted to hint a the jeweled image that I imagined when I heard the word “rubies” but I didn’t want to actually show precious stones. I just wanted to evoke the feeling of “rubies.”
This clip didn’t make it into the final project so I threw it up on iStock as a video clip for sale. It was previously called Kaleidoscope Water Triangle. I even got a couple of downloads out of it at the time. It’s available now as Water Star for free download here in case you have any use for it. I’m dedicating the copyright of this video to the public domain today as a way of saying thanks to the public domain. I’ve taken and taken and today I give back.
Enjoy! — LA
